SPoM - Developer's log 10


Hi!

Here is a short description of what's new in Level 3, and the entire game itself.

 

Level 3 design

Level 3 - The Mine - has some special details, like moveable elevators and platforms, but also stuff like alien lairs and mining machinery.

There is a lot of interaction and animated objects and it is all connected with the setting of a mine itself.

This all should give a feel of progression to the player when it gets compared with levels 1 and 2.

 

New gameplay mechanic

I've decided to implement slightly different fighting mechanics. Now there are flashes that indicate when either player or enemy is hit. Also I've implemented an immunity feature for the enemies, so player cannot hurt them when they are in attack mode.

Immunity start is indicated by red sprite flash on an enemy, while green flash indicates end of immunity state.

At 0:27 (time stamp don't work here) you can see new features:

There are some other smaller tweaks to the enemy AI and to the player characters' movement and jump speeds.

 

 

Next level plans

We will get to the secret resistance headquarters. Player will learn more about the Martians while helping them prepare to retake the planet from the invaders.

We will also meet a beautiful captain. She works for the princess and has organized the resistance base.

How will another beautiful Martian lady affect our hero's feelings toward the beautiful Martian princess?
