Developer's log 14
Hi!
Saving Princess of Mars has been released!
It was released on Steam, PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
I know, you are wondering now - why isn't the full game here on itch.io yet?
There are two reasons:
First - since the game was tampered with so it fits to different platforms, builds for each platform are somewhat different. I would like to have all feedback collected (to see if there are any bugs or issues) before I make the ultimate version.
Second - and it's related to the first reason - there were some changes I'm not a big fan of. Not big changes, but changes nevertheless. So I want to make another version of the game that would be more true to my design.
Conclusion - I want to make a SPoM Director's cut version of the game and place it here on itch.io!
Hopefully this will be done by Christmas 2025.
If you don't want to wait here are the links to other versions:
And here are some things that will be different in director's cut version of the game:
- Control panel graphics were adapted so it fits to various platforms. I will make it in pixel art because this stands out way too much in my opinion.
- Other small UI differences.
- The achievement panel will be seen on the main menu.
- Some achievement's will be more difficult to obtain - example -> to avoid "bad user experience" some achievements are now easier to get. Originally you could get them ONLY if you got to a certain point during a dialogue, so you don't get them if you skip the dialogue before that point. This original intention will be in the director's cut. In my opinion that was not a problem since after finishing the game you can get to any checkpoint and collect all the missing achievements by starting any dialogue...
- There is a scene that you would get to see only once. Again this is supposedly a "bad user experience" and it was changed to be seen every time at a certain point in the game. In the director's cut version you will see it only once!
- Term ACHIEVEMENT can't be used on certain platforms. In directors' cut it WILL be used.
- Achievement named "Credits" was renamed. I used the term "credits" as a joke since there are no real credit screens after finishing the game. But some platforms don't want this term to be used since they think players will get this achievement after watching credits - and that's not gameplay. It's impossible to explain to the bureaucrats that the name of the achievement is intentionally misleading. Humor is a dying breed these days...
And I think that's it... not much I know, but I want to have this done.
Stay beautiful and pray for the success of Saving Princess of Mars, because visibility of the released games is close to zero and I would like to continue to work on games like this one.
Bye!
